Insurance: For Your Protection

Most people go through life hoping that something unfortunate does not happen to them. Nobody plans on getting in an accident, falling ill with cancer, or suffering a heart attack. But sadly, these things do happen to people. And as hard as it is to admit, there is a chance that one of these things could happen to you. That's one reason why medical insurance is so important. No, medical insurance won't stop you from getting hurt. But it will reduce your financial burden if you do happen to become injured or ill one day. We are happy to share more about medical insurance on this blog.

An Overview To Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage

Blog

Medicare coverage is something many people over the age of 65 have. This coverage offers benefits for hospital and related physician fees. What it may not cover is the cost of prescription drugs. If you are finding a gap between what your Medicare and other insurance covers and what you are paying out of pocket for your prescriptions, you may need an additional Medicare benefit. This benefit is called Medicare Part D.

Several Enrollment Dates

One of the important things to know about Medicare Part D deals with the enrollment dates. Some insurance options only allow open enrollment dates once to twice a year. Medicare Part D has several enrollment dates available. This is in addition to the annual enrollment which takes place between mid-October and lasts through December. This gives you ample time to determine if you need this type of coverage. Also, you can enroll if certain life events occur to change your insurance needs and status.

Medicare Advantage

If you are concerned about costs due to low income, you may be eligible for Medicare Advantage. This program can help lower any copay connected to Medicare Part D to $0. This would depend on your income status and other contributing factors that affect your income. This will also include chronic special needs that may require more prescriptions than other health concerns. If you are eligible for Medicare Advantage, your enrollment advisor will let you know at the time of your Part D enrollment.

Private Insurance

Your Medicare Part D will operate through your primary insurance provider or through private insurance providers. This means you may need to decide on an eligible Part D insurance company such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Health Care, and other primary insurance companies. You can still enroll for Part D through your Medicare enrollment advisor. This does not mean you need to give up any Medicare coverage you already have or change primary insurance companies.

If you believe you need Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, contact your Medicare insurance broker or enrollment advisor. They can help with any questions you have regarding the Part D plan. They can also help you determine what prescriptions will be covered and if there are any issues with your current medications and the supplemental program. If you are concerned about your current insurance plans, changes in coverage, or needing to notify your prescription company or pharmacy, you can discuss those issues with the enrollment advisor.
